Manatee Lagoon | Echo Escapes

Manatee Lagoon offers an experience the whole family can enjoy. This discovery center is a popular spot in West Palm Beach that serves as an educational center, hands on exhibit, and manatee viewing site.

Manatees also referred to as sea cows, because of their slow nature, but their closest relative is actually an elephant! They are usually 8-9 feet long and weigh about 1000 pounds.

Built in 2016, Manatee Lagoon in West Palm Beach is dedicated to educating and inspiring the public to preserve and protect Florida’s environment and wildlife for future generations.

Manatee lagoon spokesperson Angela Cruz Ledford explains why lake worth lagoon was the ideal location for FPL’s discovery center….

“One thing that makes us really special is our unique location because we’re right next to FPL’s next generation Riviera Beach clean energy center. And what that does is it puts out clean sea water that draws in manatees during the winter months when they need that warmth to stay healthy.”

The best opportunity to witness these gentle giants is November 15th through March 31st.

However, Manatee Lagoon provides educational opportunities to the public for free all year round…..

The discovery center features a hands-on exhibit, in-person and virtual interactive programs, and guided tours by the manatee masters.

Manatee Lagoon staffers have created an extensive calendar of activities, ranging from children’s art classes focusing on species found in the lake worth lagoon, yoga on the waterfront observation deck, educational programs for kids, to story and craft time for toddlers.

Since its grand opening, over 150-thousand visitors have experienced all that Manatee Lagoon has to offer…..!
