Green Bean Casserole

Green Bean Casserole

Friendsgiving was always a thing, but it now seems to be almost a separate and equal holiday on its own.  We have a longtime friend group from our block in Jupiter and get together once a month. It started when the kids were younger. This week we had Friendsgiving at our home and played games after. I’m in the home selling business and it always reminds me how important a home is when we have a nice time like that. Our ECHO office Thanksgiving was a potluck. We do it in our Egret Landing community clubhouse (a nice community amenity perk) and it’s a lot of fun to see what everyone makes and just gather around.  So, with our daughter, Jade, coming home from FSU, and everyone focused on their own family, I thought I’d write a bit about Thanksgiving past and present.  My guess is much of it will apply to you.

I remember my mom making Green Bean Casserole. My Mom prefers not to cook, but that was one dish that I remember that tasted oh so good.

I remember wearing a sweater for Thanksgiving.

I remember having Thanksgiving at a friend’s house after my folks left Florida. Sam was one year old, and we realized Chicago wasn’t home anymore.

I remember when Publix was the only choice for Turkey and Fixins’.

I remember once traveling on a business trip to Toronto around Thanksgiving and making calls from a phone booth with snow past my knees in my suit.

I remember Thanksgiving past. Papa Sam, Mama Lena, Grandpa Irving, Grandma Harriet, Grandpa Gerry, Grandma Rosetta, Alina, and of course, Marie.

I remember a quarantine Thanksgiving.

I remember Thanksgiving when Walter Payton rushed for 179 yards. Of course, the Bears lost to the Cowboys 10-9.

Now here is what I’m thankful for…

I’m thankful for getting to wear shorts and go to the beach on Thanksgiving Day.

I’m thankful that I get to gloat about 82 and sunny in Jupiter while 35 and freezing rain for this Thanksgiving in NYC…

I’m thankful for having lots of old friends I can call up anytime and talk about anything.

I’m thankful that people read what I write each Sunday morning.

I’m thankful we have the choice of getting Turkeys and fixins’ from Publix, Whole Foods, Sprouts, Joesphs, Carmines, Doris, and Fresh Market

I’m thankful for my Grandpa Gerry’s advice that “you can’t do a good deal with a bad guy”.

I’m thankful for our fine agents at ECHO. Each was hired with my Grandpa’s advice in mind.

I’m thankful for all the medical staff at MD Anderson who helped me when I went through Kidney Cancer. Without your health you have nothing.

I’m thankful for the Palm Beach County school system, Ms. Ugalde, Martha, Mr. Boffice, Tim Tavis, and others who helped with our kids along the way.

I’m thankful for Big Brothers Big Sisters for giving me an opportunity to help a Little.

I’m thankful for my immediate family, and relatives close and far away that I’ve had Thanksgiving with past and present.

I’m thankful for our clients who put Thanksgiving food on our table.  Thank you!

As a loyal Chicago sports fan, I’m thankful for next year.

From all of your friends at ECHO Fine Properties, have a Happy Thanksgiving. Gobble Gooble! 🦃
